WHY DO WE SAY "YAMAS/ŞEREFE"?

Each nation has their own saying about this. Russians say " Nazdarovya", Bulgarians say " Izdrava", Greeks say "Yamas" and Turks say "Şerefe"(In Turkish it means "I am drinking for your glory/honour").

And let me explain why do we say so!

Once upon a time, drinking had some specialities,rules,style...When men met around the table to drink they made agreement and said: "You know when we drink we can loose our mouth's control and sometimes we regret for what we say and hurt each other unconsciously. What we talk when we drink will stay here among us,promise?"

-Ok, promise!

-Ok then,şerefe(Yamas!)

By the way, last week i found somewhere in Taksim Square (a very famous area in Konstantinopolis) named "YAMAS MEYHANESİ"...It's a great place which you can find Greek musics, and delicious foods blended with Greek&Turkish culture decorated with Hellenistic art.As a Turkish citizen who adores Greek culture and tradition i admired this place! If your way goes on Taksim i advise you to go...
