Bride is 8, Bridegroom is 58 years old

Yes that's right, guys... She is just 8 years old. She doesn't know what does "marriage" mean. All that she knows ( what she needs to know at this age) are books, pencils, school and friends...

In Saudi Arabia, a father gave his daughter, who is 8 years old and has just started primary school, in marriage. But this is not a normal marriage because her father took 15000 $ as bride price ( The agreed upon amount of money or assets given to the bride's family at the time of engagement or before the wedding). According to this marriage agreement ; this little girl will not live conjogal life with this man till her 18s and continue to live with her family. But the bridegroom will be able to visit his "wife!" whenever he wants.

Thanks God, little girl's mother filed a legal action in order to annul this marriage. BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE COURT RESULTED IT AGAINST HER! WHY? BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THAT "ONLY" FATHER IS RESPONSIBLE WITH THE DAUGHTER.

Can somebody tell me who give birth the child? Did he do it on his own? Is he the one who gave birth this little girl???

Woman rights... Where are they? She is just 8 years old...How can a father decide to "sell" his daughter as an item? I am really too frustrated about it and i can not understand what a huge conservative thought is that, what a great illiteracy against women...

Especially in east contries, unfortunately women are insignificant about anything and have no right to speak and give their opinion, as well.

I hope someone from European Court of Human Rights can hear this girl's voice and save her from this mess.

Unfortunately sometimes we come across the same absurd events like that in Turkey.

HEY THERE!!! WE ARE IN 21st CENTURY!!! Not in STONE AGE.

Ok, you can not become civilized, at least try to ACT AS CIVILIZED.

Hi Burcu,

Oh my God, 8 years old? That is terrible!!

Of course the court ruled against the mother: in those countries, only men have rights over their kids...women are...the bearers only!

Women rights in those countries are a joke, unfortunately! But what makes me angry is the fact that the so-called feminists on this side fight for silly causes, nowadays, instead of fighting for proper causes on behalf of women who haven't yet earned the right to fight for themselves.
I admire women (pro-feminae) who try to help these women in countries like Saudi Arabia; who are trying to end this vile male behaviour and power. But I also say, that women in the Muslim world must fight, fight and fight even if it costs their lives (just like women in the Western world did - they were tortured, raped, humiliated so that future generations of women could have the freedom that they enjoy today).

I agree with you: we are in the 21st century and this type of behaviour is no longer acceptable!

Thanks for posting this! Such articles contribute immensely to the cause :D!

I don't know your spiritual background, but I wish you Happy Holidays :D!

Cheers

Hi Max,
Wellcome 1 more time!
You know i overrate your opinions and comments. Thanks in advance!
The real guilties are women, believe me...Because they can't dare to be against their husband. They don't know any other word more than "yes, ok"...They can't find the power in themselves to say "NO!"...

But i have a hope inside that next generations won't be same. They'll not loose their worth and pride from their hands.
Maybe this is what i need to believe. Otherwise, i don't wanna give birth a female baby into that mess in forthcoming years.

@The villager: Thanks for your best wishes...and your visit,as well.

@Internation musing : Yes i know, The European Court for Human rights has nothing to do there but there must be something which includes all countries. Because these women are abondened. Their country doesn't maintain or protect them. I am so sorry for that.

UNDP or Unicef, there are several UN bodies where these countries are member of.
Human Right Watch or AI can also put some pressure.

I saw this on the internet news. :-(

I'm originally from Africa where the rights of women is equally dreadful in some places. We think humans are so "modern", but the truth is most of this planet is still living in the dark ages.

Now on to happier topics... I'm here to wish you a very happy Christmas - from Scotland. :-)

Oh, my one cousin sent me a card to say he visited Istanbul this summer I went to see the grave of our great-great grandmother there. I hope he took photos!! If he did I'll put them on my blog some time next year.

Sad, sad, sad. Unfortunately this type of behaviour still exists in some civilized countries as well.

I think it's a matter of education.

Have a nice day Burcu.

@ Michelle : Thanks a lot for your interest and sensitivity!
Yes sometimes in columns of magazines and newspapers, i read about "Being woman in Africa" and get very sad about what they are exposed to...

I am looking forward to see the photos in your blog if your cousin had taken.

Send my greetings to people whom i don't know in Scotland :)

Merry Christmas

@ Teddyboy : Yes it's not only a matter of education but also manner of people. Maybe these people aren't well educated but it doesn't required to be feckless.

Have a nice day Teddyboy!
